Participants Sought for Year 5 * Sign Up for Job Booklet
With seven of eight Road Shows completed, it's time for the next step in
this year's Careers in Manufacturing program and that is to prepare the
sample job booklet that will be used to show high school seniors the types
of jobs that may be available after they've graduated later this spring. The students will look through the booklet
to learn more about the participating companies, the types of entry level
jobs available, the pay ranges and the job responsibilities. The booklet
listings are more general in nature and not specific to current openings.
The booklet is distributed to the participating high school seniors for
their review and consideration. Students will be completing a
pre-screening application which will be sent to the employers they have
selected (by the Aliance WorkNet). The employers will then review the pre-apps and select those students
who are eligible for current openings. This information will be
transmitted to AWN, along with company specific procedures for submitting
a formal application or employers may choose to interview directly from
the pre-application screening form. Further instructions will be provided.
Even if you have not participated up to this point, there
is still time to be included. Contact Jan Ennenga at jan@mccv.org or (209)

What Is Careers in Manufacturing?
Careers in Manufacturing is a ground breaking program unique to California’s San Joaquin Valley with origins in Modesto. CIM, as it is known, is a partnership between the Manufacturers Council of Central Valley, Stanislaus Economic Development & Workforce Alliance and Stanislaus Partners In Education (SPIE), in strong collaboration with Modesto Junior College, high schools throughout Stanislaus County and local employers.
Careers in Manufacturing is designed to:
increase the number of young people considering and training for careers in manufacturing;
fill current and projected openings in the manufacturing workforce; and
reduce the droupout/fadeout rate at area high schools.
This is accomplished through:
outreach programs promoting the industry and educational options;
offering employment to qualified youth; and,
providing incentives to motivate students to pursue additional education in technically skilled certificate and degree programs.
Now in the fifth year, CIM has brought new awareness of exciting and well-paying manufacturing career opportunities to students, parents, educators and the workforce development professionals. It has provided close to 200 high school graduates with employment; the manufacturing industry with motivated workers; and has increased the number of students registering for Modesto Junior College’s Technical Education courses.
One of the key components of CIM has been to develop partnerships and strengthen linkages between employers, educators, workforce development professionals and job seekers; all are involved and at the table working together to increase the educational and skill levels of the local workforce.
