November MCCV Meeting features Sustainable Management Tools |
Special Presentation on Efficiencies in Water and
Energy Utilization
What do wineries and many other industries have in common?
Among other things, they use water and electricity and are
looking for ways to "go-green," in order to conserve valuable
resources.
You can learn more about what the wine industry has done to
improve efficiencies and how these tools can be applied for
use at other water intensive facilities at the next MCCV
Working Committee Meeting set for
Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the E&J
Gallo Winery in Modesto. The meeting begins at 8:30
a.m. For details and a copy of the agenda. visit:
www.mccv.org
The Wine Institute and the American Vineyard Foundation, in
partnership with the National Grape & Wine Initiative,
recently published the Comprehensive Guide to Sustainable
Management of Winery Water and Associated Energy.
The guide, which was prepared by Kennedy/Jenks Consultants,
gives wineries of all sizes the tools to evaluate their
operations and make improvements to reduce their water use and
the strength and volume of wastewater discharged. Due to the
energy needed to manage water, these changes can also reduce
energy use.
The presentation will introduce the guide and methods that
could similarly be applied at food processing facilities.

CEC to host roadmap workshop
on Monday, Nov. 17 in Modesto |
Participants
sought to help with R&D ideas for funding
On Monday, Nov. 17 at
the Modesto Double Tree Hotel, the California Energy
Commission (CEC) Public Interest Energy Research Program
(PIER) is conducting a meeting to develop a roadmap on new
energy efficient technologies for the food processing and
beverage industry in California.
There is no charge and registration is still open to all
those interested in participating. To register, and for
additional details, please click on the following meeting
website:
https://events.energetics.com/CEC_Food&Bev08/
The goal of the meeting is to bring together food and
beverage industry representatives to discuss priority
challenges, goals, and technological and other solutions for
improving energy use efficiency, reducing regulated emissions,
and reducing water consumption.
Workshop participants will benefit by learning about
efficiency opportunities from others in the industry, sharing
stories of challenges and success, and contributing towards
priority solutions.
The PIER Program annually awards up to $80 million to
conduct energy research, development, and demonstration (RD&D)
projects.
Input from workshop participants will be used in preparing
an RD&D Roadmap Report to help guide future CEC PIER efforts,
including future RFPs specifically addressing priority food
and beverage industry needs. |
