Rebates, Incentives, Boilers Top April MCCV Agenda: Don't Miss Out
Boiler efficiency, emission limits and rebates will top the agenda for the
Wednesday, April 15 meeting of the
Manufacturers Council of the Central Valley. The meeting will begin at
8:30 a.m. at the Operations Training Room at E&J Gallo Winery, Modesto.
Rachel Christenson and Eric Koeppel with Enovity, a PG&E approved third party service provider, will discuss the PG&E's Commercial Industrial Boiler Efficiency Program (CIBEP) and how firms can receive expert advice, no-cost professional services, and cash incentives for boiler efficiency improvements that will reduce energy use and meet the increasingly stringent emission limits. To learn more about Enovity, click here and check back to the MCCV website (www.mccv.org) for more details closer to the meeting date.

Sometimes No News IS Bad News. . .Not All GHG Mandatory Reporters Have Been Notified
Do you think you're off the hook for reporting GHG emissions because you
haven't received an official letter from the California Air Resources
Board. Don't throw a party just yet....not everyone who should be notified
has been notified.
If you are concerned that your firm may be over the CARB mandatory reporting threshold of 25,000 metric tonnes CO2 equivalent, or fall into one of the mandatory reporting categories, but haven't received formal notification by the agency, there are three steps to take that will keep your company on the right side of CARB on this issue. For a detailed look at the information prepared by Allan Bedwell of Cantor CO2e, please visit www.mccv.org.

Federal GHG reporting on the docket for EPA * Hearing in Sacramento, April 16
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on March 10 proposed
the first comprehensive national system for reporting emissions of carbon
dioxide and other greenhouse gases produced by major sources in the United
States. The new reporting requirements would apply to suppliers of fossil fuel and industrial chemicals, manufacturers of motor vehicles and engines, as well as large direct emitters of greenhouse gases with emissions equal to or greater than a threshold of 25,000 metric tons per year. The direct emission sources covered under the reporting requirement would include energy intensive sectors such as cement production, iron and steel production, and electricity generation, among others. The first annual report would be submitted to EPA in 2011 for the calendar year 2010, except for vehicle and engine manufacturers, which would begin reporting for model year 2011. EPA estimates that the expected cost to comply with the reporting requirements to the private sector would be $160 million for the first year. In subsequent years, the annualized costs for the private sector would be $127 million. EPA is developing this rule under the authority of the Clean Air Act. The proposed rule will be open for public comment for 60 days after publication in the Federal Register. Two public hearings will be held during the comment period including one in Sacramento, on Thursday, April 16. For information visit, EPA Proposes GHG Reporting rule.

Careers in Manufacturing: Time is Running Out for 2009 Program; Lots of Great Applicants!
With seven of eight Road Shows completed, it's time for the next step in
this year's Careers in Manufacturing program and that is to prepare the
sample job booklet that will be used to show high school seniors the types
of jobs that may be available after they've graduated later this spring.
The CIM Career Opportunity Booklet is now being prepared for distribution to the students. The students will look through the booklet to learn more about the participating companies, the types of entry level jobs available, the pay ranges and the job responsibilities. The booklet listings are more general in nature and not specific to current openings. The booklet is distributed to the participating high school seniors for their review and consideration. Students will be completing a pre-screening application which will be sent to the employers they have selected (by the Aliance WorkNet). The employers will then review the pre-apps and select those students who are eligible for current openings. This information will be transmitted to AWN, along with company specific procedures for submitting a formal application or employers may choose to interview directly from the pre-application screening form. Further instructions will be provided. Even if you have not participated up to this point, there is still time to be included. Contact Jan Ennenga at jan@mccv.org or (209) 968-5632 or visit the MCCV website for a fill-in form.
