COMMITTEE NOTES
The upcoming February 16 committee meetings will be action packed. We will begin our water-use meeting with a Land Application Forum addressing important issues relating to cost, regulations, and environmental concerns. Jim Curtis of Kennedy-Jenks will present this important information. We will follow this presentation with a CALFED update by Walt Ward of the Modesto Irrigation District. We will conclude our meetings with our air committee hosting Air Pollution Control Officer, Dave Crow, and Deputy Air Pollution Control Officer, Mark Boise. The focus of this meeting will be on our concerns regarding best available control technology and Rule 4305 (small boiler rule). I hope to see you all there!
NEW AIR DISTRICT LEADER ADDRESSES BOARD
The new chairperson of the San Joaquin Valley Unified Air
Pollution Control District recently paid a visit to our Board of
Directors on January 8, 1999, at the Doubletree Hotel in Modesto.
Modesto City Councilmember, Kenni Friedman, recently elected as
the new chair of the air district discussed her upcoming
priorities for this year. The district budget needs to be
streamlined with more public input, communications with key
stakeholders continued, and regional collaboration on issues
affecting this district all remain important. Friedman also
indicated that she wanted to continue her working relationship
with the MCCV as she faces the challenges this coming year.
MCCV TRANSPORTATION STATEMENT
Per the request of the Executive Committee the public policy
subcommittee recently drafted a transportation statement that we
hope will be the guiding principal for future transportation
debates in the central valley. We would like to present the
following statement for your review and comments by February 19,
1999. Ultimately, we will try to incorporate your comments and
present this statement at our third quarter Board of Directors
meeting for their approval.
Draft
The Manufacturers Council of the Central Valley represents
manufacturers which employ over 50,000 people with 75 facilities
spread throughout the San Joaquin Valley. The council advocates
transportation policies that facilitate the timely and efficient
movement of freight and employees from our members operations to
the major transportation corridors. We also believe that
transportation infrastructure that supports our existing
agricultural based manufacturing should receive a high funding
priority.
